When Buying / Selling a Caravan you are required to have a valid

- Caravan Gas Certificate (with in 3 months of the inspection date)

- Caravan Roadworthy Certificate / Safety Certificate (with in 2 months of the inspection date)

Recently we have found upon a few gas inspections quite a high number of jobs done here in Queensland by licensed gas fitters are still wrong, mainly not fitting compliance plates either because they have a restricted service licence and can not take on any modification work or they hold an open gas licence but still not doing the job correctly.

If you’re having any modification work or a new fit out the owner of the caravan / camper must always check the persons gas licence has no restrictions and the gas fitter is filling out the paperwork correctly

Here is a little job we did this week, a Caravan Roadworthy and Gas Certificate on a Jayco Camper. Upon inspection I found that the brakes were not working at all, and as you can see here the old brakes have been dragging and are completely burnt out!

With in a day we had the new backing plates fitted and the bearings serviced ready for the new owner and the paperwork all sorted as well.

When was the last time you looked under your caravan or trailer? Upon inspection on this caravan that was only a few years old find a quite shocking tear through the tyre.

This can happen just with age when the rubber dries out it starts to crack and your small crack will then turn into something like this

Caravan RWC and Gas Certificates

When was the last time you had your Caravan inspected? Is everything still in working order?

This Caravan apparently had an inspection 2 years ago, meaning the customer was under the assumption that everything was fine but suffering brake failure caused by the tow vehicles brake controller constantly dragging the brakes, as you can see here they have gotten that hot even the magnets have melted.

If you’re going away you should consider simply looking under your caravan.

Look for things like cracks in welds, that the wiring and water pipes are all where they should be.

Selling your caravan and needing a Roadworthy?

Things like leaking shock absorbers will affect your Caravan Roadworthy and should be replaced ASAP.
